In the US we have discussion that the Playboy Club, Charlie’s Angels, and Pan Am may promote sexist views. This remember, is discussed in a nation where women can be Secretary of State or even President, they can be CEOs of major corporations, or Supreme Court Judges, and they can meet in Boardrooms, and cabinet meetings without their husband or male relatives.
In Saudi Arabia just this week a woman’s sentence of flogging was overturned for her crime of driving a car! What would happen to Danica Patrick? Women can never meet with a man in private unless their husband or other male relative is also present or they could face legal penalties. And of course don’t forget the Taliban who feel that women should be hidden from public view completely. Burkhas don’t objectify women, they make them disappear! In areas of Afghanistan women are viewed as unclean and are only considered as a reluctant means of procreation.
We can have healthy public discussion of the separation of Church and State. In Pakistan a politician was executed by his body-guard for merely suggesting that their blasphemy law be reconsidered in this modern-day and age. The same people who vetted his body-guard are the same ones that vet the guards that watch their nuclear arsenal.
This week the people of Pakistan were in riot over their belief that we will invade them. They are upset that we killed Bin Laden on their land without telling them first not that they were harboring Bin laden without telling us. They are also upset that we have killed a few people in their country, yet are not upset with the dozens killed by terrorists in their own country.
What are they afraid of? That women will look pretty and drive in cars and participate in decisions, and that people may convert to a religion where people encouraged instead of killed? Whoa scary! This Halloween go as a female judge with a Bible and car keys!
